Desk Clock & Slideshow Setup
IndiClock is designed to run for hours on a stand as an always-on clock or slideshow. The setup differs slightly between iPhone and iPad — follow the section for your device.
Before you start (both devices)
- Stand: any landscape-capable stand works. MagSafe, folio-case kickstand, or a plain wire phone/tablet stand are all fine.
- Power: keep the device plugged in. IndiClock's desk mode keeps the screen awake, so battery will drain without power.
- Brightness: lower the brightness (Control Center → sun slider) for overnight use to reduce screen burn-in risk and glare.
- Do Not Disturb: turn on a Focus mode (Control Center → Focus) so notifications don't cover the clock.
iPhone
1. Open IndiClock and rotate to landscape
When you rotate the iPhone to landscape while IndiClock is open, the app enters Desk Mode. A large clock takes the full screen and the iOS auto-lock timer is disabled automatically — the screen will stay on as long as the app is foregrounded.
2. Stop iOS StandBy from taking over
Important: iOS 17 and later include a feature called StandBy that automatically replaces your running app with Apple's own clock UI when the iPhone is charging + landscape + stationary. Those are exactly the conditions you want for a desk clock, so StandBy will override IndiClock unless you turn it off.
To disable it:
- Open iOS Settings
- Scroll to StandBy
- Toggle StandBy → Off
You can turn it back on any time. Alternatively, use IndiClock without the device charging, or while holding it — StandBy needs all three conditions at once.
3. Set up a slideshow (optional)
Many IndiClock themes include a built-in slideshow of images (landmarks, art, scenery). In desk mode, swipe from the right edge to bring up the side panel and toggle the slideshow on. Images rotate every ~30 seconds by default.
4. Keep the screen on without StandBy
Desk mode already disables auto-lock while IndiClock is in the foreground. As a belt-and-suspenders fallback for portrait use:
- Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never
iPad
1. Open IndiClock
iPad does not have StandBy, so there is no system-level override to worry about. IndiClock's desk mode works in both landscape and portrait; landscape is the recommended orientation for a desk clock.
2. Keep the screen on
IndiClock disables auto-lock automatically while in the foreground. For extra assurance:
- Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never
3. Lock the iPad to IndiClock (recommended for public / shared displays)
Use Guided Access to pin the iPad to IndiClock so taps can't accidentally leave the app — useful for lobbies, waiting rooms, or kids' rooms:
- Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access → On. Set a passcode.
- Open IndiClock.
- Triple-click the top button (or Home button) to start Guided Access.
- Tap Start. The iPad is now locked to IndiClock until you triple-click again and enter the passcode.
4. Set up a slideshow (optional)
Same as iPhone — swipe from the right edge in desk mode to bring up the side panel and enable the slideshow.
Troubleshooting
- Screen turned off anyway? You left IndiClock (app switcher, home screen, another app). Desk mode only suspends auto-lock while IndiClock is in the foreground. Reopen IndiClock.
- iPhone shows Apple's clock instead of IndiClock? StandBy is on. See the iPhone section above.
- Weather isn't loading? See the Support & FAQ weather entry.
- Images load slowly on a particular theme? Let the theme sit for ~30–60 seconds on first view — images cache locally after the first load and subsequent viewings are instant.
